YouTube Hashtag Rules You Should Know
Hashtags on YouTube are clickable words that start with #. They link your video to other videos on the same topic. YouTube has a few rules about how they work.

| First three show above the title | If your title has no hashtags, YouTube shows the first three from your description above the title. Put your best three first. |
| More than 60 means none count | If a video has more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores all of them. |
| No spaces | Write #digitalmarketing, not #digital marketing. The tool removes spaces for you. |
| Must be relevant | Misleading or unrelated hashtags break YouTube's rules and can get the video removed from search. |
| Shorts | #shorts is optional, but it helps label the video as a Short. |

Three to five relevant hashtags is a good habit. YouTube shows the first three above your title, and if a video has more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores all of them.
Where should I put hashtags on YouTube?
Put them at the end of the video description. You can also add one or two in the title, but then YouTube shows those instead of the ones from the description.
Should I use #shorts on YouTube Shorts?
It is optional. YouTube can recognise Shorts on its own, but #shorts is a simple way to label the video, and many creators still use it.

They can bring a few extra viewers from hashtag pages and related searches, but the title, thumbnail and how long people watch matter much more.
What is the difference between YouTube tags and hashtags?
