What Is CPA (Cost Per Acquisition)?
CPA is what you spend to get one conversion: a lead, a booking or a sale. When the conversion is a lead, it is also called cost per lead (CPL).
| Campaign | Spend | Conversions | CPA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Course enquiry ads | ₹20,000 | 50 leads | ₹400 |
| Bakery order ads | ₹5,000 | 40 orders | ₹125 |
| Clinic booking ads | ₹15,000 | 30 bookings | ₹500 |
Example numbers only. A "good" CPA is any CPA below the profit you make from that customer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate CPA?
CPA = total cost ÷ number of conversions. For example, ₹20,000 spent for 50 leads is a CPA of ₹400.
What is the difference between CPA and CPL?
CPL (cost per lead) is a type of CPA where the conversion is a lead. CPA can also mean cost per sale, booking or sign-up.
What is a good CPA?
Any CPA that is lower than the profit a customer brings you. Work out customer value first, then set your target CPA.
How do I find cost per customer from cost per lead?
Divide CPA by your closing rate. If each lead costs ₹400 and 1 in 4 leads buys, each customer costs ₹1,600.
Is CPA the same as CPC?
No. CPC is the cost of a click; CPA is the cost of a result. Many clicks may be needed for one conversion.
